John Quincy Adams Campbell Diaries 1861-1864

John Quincy Adams Campbell was a member of the 5th Regiment of Iowa Volunteer Infantry during the American Civil War. The collection consists of three Civil War diaries. Volume 1 contains daily entries from July 9, 1861 to December 31, 1862. Volume 2 continues with January 1, 1863 to May 4, 1864, and also contains some later observations about his regiment written after 1905. Volume 3 contains entries from May 5, 1864 to November 24, 1864.

John Quincy Adams Campbell was a resident of Bellefontaine, Logan County, and Ripley, Brown County, Ohio who moved to Newton, Jasper County, Iowa. Shortly after the commencement of the American Civil War, Campbell enlisted in Company B, 5th Regiment of the Iowa Volunteer Infantry.
